What is custom engraved signage? We use a CNC router which is an automatic tool that engraves patterns and text onto wood, steel, metal, plastic, and other materials as well to manufacture a design you love. Recently, we customized a custom engraved sign for an office center. We designed and manufactured outdoor directory signs made of engraved painted HDU signs. On top we attached an acrylic sign with vinyl that represents the name of their business. The board was pleased they now have all matching signs.

At our location we have all kinds of materials that will hold up for unpredictable weather. You may be wondering, How does this work? During our free consultation we will answer all of your questions. Together, we will create a custom design that represents your brand. If you are looking for a graphic to be added to your custom engraved signage we can do that as well. Once you have approved the proof (a copy of what the design will look like once it is manufactured) our team has created then it is time for the next steps. Our CNC Router does all the work so you don’t have to. The CNC routers are consistent and produce high quality material at a fast speed. These are programmed and controlled by our computers, this means once we send over the information the CNC router gets to work!

Manufacture of CUSTOM ENGRAVED SIGN 

The manufacturing of the Office Court at Pennell Place unit plaques represented a challenge for us that encouraged precise action and deliberate planning at all stages of the project. We chose Komacel as our material due to its weather resistant properties, lightweight results, and machineable qualities. We began by painting full sheets of Komacel with Matthews paint on both sides of the sheets. The color used was to be that of the body of the sign - a color selected for its ability to aesthetically blend with the colors of the exterior walls and door frames of the building. The now-painted sheets were then masked using a special adhesive masking product selected for its ability to be machined cleanly. Now protected, the sheets were placed on our CNC Router, where the signs were cut - including the unit number engravings, holes, chamfers, and rounded edges. ​

Unlike the material’s surface, Komacel’s exposed center consists of expanded PVC - a material that is extremely porous and thus challenging to paint. This porosity was overcome using a special high film-build Matthews primer, filling the pores and providing us with a smooth surface over which we can paint in later stages of production.

Once primed, the engraved unit numbers were painted using a stunning ‘Brilliant Gold’ paint, and then clear-coated to protect it for many years to come. The cut edges were additionally primed and painted with the same paint color as that of the surface, providing a cohesive finish all around.

The unit plaques were designed in such a way that the backer can remain on the wall as businesses cycle in and out of the complex, with an easily replaceable beveled nameplate attached to the front of the backers. This gives us the ability to cleanly and quickly replace business names for each unit, a quality which can be critical in our dynamic economy.

After all is said and done, we are thrilled with the product we were able to fabricate for The Office Court at Pennell Place. We consider it to be a resounding success, with the end result meeting or exceeding our expectations going into the project.
