Creating Post and Panel Signage for Marple Township and Newton Township – By Signs A La Carte West Chester PA-

​A panel sign consists of two posts and a single panel in between them. The signage we create at Signs A La Carte is custom to your needs.

​This is why Julie Long, M.A., CCC-SLP came to our office to help her design and create a panel sign for Marple Township and Newtown Township’s playgrounds. We were delighted to be able to help Julie with these custom signs after she told her about her passion. 
 
“In my role as a Speech Language Pathologist, I have had the privilege to work with many children with communication needs that benefit from additional support such as Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC). Children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Apraxia of Speech, and/or Speech Language Impairment often have difficulties with communication. Many children with these diagnoses benefit from supplementing their verbal speech with a form of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).” By adding a panel board to the playgrounds this gives children the chance to be able to communicate with their peers. “With the Playground Communication boards, children will be able to express themselves and share experiences with both peers and adults in the playground environment. In addition, adults will have the opportunity to model different phrases on the playground AAC board to show the children how to access the playground equipment and how to socially engage with peers.” 
 
Julie took it upon herself to reach out to the township to ensure more children would be able to benefit from the wonderful communication boards. “Marple Newtown School District had recently purchased two Playground Communication boards to support their students at recess. As the children also play at the Township Parks, I was motivated to reach out to the local townships, Marple and Newtown Township to ensure that children had access to Playground Communication Boards at their local parks. Marple Township representative, Larry Gentile,  and Newtown Township representative, Leonard B. Altieri III, have been extremely positive and passionate about this ground breaking project. From this initial contact with both Larry and Leonard have propelled this project forward and have been an integral part of this project’s success. At this time, Marple Township and Newtown Township will be the only two townships in Delaware County to offer Playground Communication Boards that offer the all children the ability to communicate at the playground.”
